Eliminating Drought

Drought has cost the United States about 151 billion dollars* in the last 26 years. It is a quiet destroyer of crops and a blazing destroyer of forest. We have surrendered to the idea that nothing can be done to eliminate drought. It is time to change that idea. With the technology we have now, it is conceivable to modify the weather to minimize the impact of droughts.

If we could budget one billion dollars for research and equipment per year, it is possible that we could create rainmaking equipment. To make rain clouds from scratch. We have extensive data already about clouds and storms. All we need is an endless source of water for the clouds.

A possible solution is to start with an ocean going ship off the coast of America. Pump water into the ship from the ocean and remove the salt. Add minerals to the water for raindrop control. We do not want the clouds to rain too soon. The clouds might have to move hundreds of miles inland before it rains. Spray the water out of nozzles high above the ship into a chimney. Have jet engines or fans move the air in the chimney at speeds up to three hundred mph. This upward movement of water vapor at high speed could create a large cloud in a short time. A cloud is just made up of water vapor and raindrops. Have a small fleet of rain making ships off the coast when the wind is blowing in the right direction. Have ships off the California coast, Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic coast to make large rainstorms for different areas of the country. Remember, cites get their water supply from rain and snow runoff. Making it rain would replenish well water, lakes and rivers also. With record heat, another plus is that rain can cool an area in summer.

The downside is we still have to watch the weather for other storms. Flooding, mudslides and the effect on wildlife, becomes a real problem when we add more rain clouds to the normal weather system. Laws will be needed to protect this rain making process from lawsuits coming from lighting, tornadoes and flooding damage. The United Nations will have to agree to monitor the rain making process. Clouds can travel to other countries and cause problems, making international laws a necessity.

Global warming is increasing the chance of more droughts around the world. The cost is only going to go up. Why are we waiting? In 2006 alone the United States lost 6.0 billion dollars* in drought related cost. Can we afford not to eliminate droughts?

What To Consider When Choosing The Month and Location of Your Fall Wedding Celebration

The days will soon be getting shorter and the weather cooler while engaged couples begin to finalize their fall wedding plans. If you are planning an autumn wedding here are some tips on choosing a month and a location for your dream wedding.

Mid-September to Late-october

The colors of the autumn leaves are the most vibrant at this time of the year. You'll have a perfect combination of colorful leaves on the trees and a scattering of fallen leaves upon the ground. It's a perfect time for holding an outdoor fall wedding, as well as a beautiful setting for those memorable photographs. The weather has cooled off a bit, but it's still not overly chilly (usually).

Those couples that live in Canada may elect to have a Thanksgiving wedding theme mid-month.

In any case, if you do decide on having an outdoor ceremony and/or reception, plan on setting up large event tents and renting outdoor space heaters just in case as the weather can be somewhat unpredictable at this point.

End of october Nuptials

Halloween wedding themes have become a popular choice for the last week of october. With all the Halloween items available you won't have much problem planning out your dcor or selecting favors.

A Wedding in November

The month of November can be a bit more iffy in terms of cold weather and possible snow flurries, especially in the northern regions. It's best that you go with an indoor venue for your wedding and reception at this time of the year.

Thanksgiving theme weddings are often planned by couples during this month since it's easy to create and pick up decorating items, flowers and favors.

Choosing an Ideal Location For Your Fall Wedding

In the early part of the fall, holding your fall wedding ceremony outdoors provides a truly photographic setting if you live in an area where the tree leaves turn a wondrous array of colors. Think of holding your ceremony in one of the following locations:

  • Apple orchards with their colorful leaves and bright, red apples for contrast. Theme Suggestion: apple orchard theme wedding.
  • A vineyard is also a popular choice with many brides and grooms. Theme Suggestions: wine/vineyard/grape wedding theme.
  • Local nature parks are also provide a perfect setting for a fall wedding. The trees themselves provide a wonderful decorating scheme. Theme: colorful leaves.

For later in the fall or if you aren't interesting in having your wedding outside, look for 18th century style churches, Tudor style inns, historic villages, or a large barn to hold your ceremony and reception. These places provide wonderful character and lend themselves to being decorated in fall foliage and decor. If possible, choose locations that provide warmth using rich dark wood on the floors and/or walls, as well as welcoming fireplaces.

Disneyland Annual Pass: How Does it Work?

Buying a 12 month passport to Disneyland gives you unlimited access to either Disneyland Anaheim or Walt Disney world Orlando for an entire year. If you think that you are likely to be visiting one of the two parks many times over a one year period then securing a yearly passport makes sense because it can mean significant cost savings. The more often you go the better value you are getting for the initial cost of your ticket. There are two ways that you can buy your year long pass, either in person or online. If you are planning on using your pass immediately then either option is fine but if you are wanting to use it some time in the future then buying it online is best. This is because a yearly passport purchased on the web does not have an expiry date and the clock doesn't start ticking until you first use it at your chosen theme park.

You can get a yearly passport to Walt Disney world in Orlando or Disneyland in Annaheim. There are basically two types of tickets: deluxe and premium. If your yearly ticket turns out to be well worth the investment then you can resubscribe for the following year at a slight reduction.

What is so attractive about a Disneyland yearly ticket?
. you get unlimited admission to the main theme parks within one Disney establishment for 12 months. For Walt Disney world, Orlando this means access to Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, the Disney-MGM Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park. At Disneyland, Anaheim you get access to the main area and Disney's California Adventure (DCA) as well.
. free parking;
. while at the park if you spend a minimum of $10 at a Disney dining outlet or hotel you'll get at least 10% off the price.
saving on your lodging if you stay at a Disney Resort Hotel and quote your yearly passport number when you make your reservation
travel from one park to another within Disneyland or Walt Disney world in the same day without incurring any extra costs. So in California you could go to Disneyland in the morning, the California Adventure in the afternoon and then back to Disneyland's main grounds in the evening.
jump on to Disney's transport system to get around the grounds or from one section to another
. if a t-shirt or stuffed toy takes your fancy you can save ten percent on the cost of all Disney items for sale.

What it doesn't include:
. entry to separately priced events or activities

The main difference between the annual and premium passport, apart from the price, is that the extra you pay gets you a higher discount on food and accommodation and you get unlimited admission to more places.

If you are a Florida or Southern California resident then Disney has special yearly passports for you. However, while these passes are significantly cheaper than the standard deluxe or premium passports, you are restricted to the number of days you can use them to those days specifically nominated by Disney and parking is not included in the fee.

So who buys a Disneyland Annual Pass?
The yearly passport appeals to Disney fanatics who just can't get enough of all things Disney but also to those who want to take their time to enjoy their Disney experience. A year long passport means you can go day or night, you aren't as worried about seeing and doing as much as you can on each visit because you know you can come back anytime in the next 12 months. Overall it is a more relaxed way to take it all in.

If you're planning a Disney holiday then you'll be sure to want to find out the insider information that the official sites tend to gloss over. For articles, up-to-date news and resources on Disney holidays go to Disney Annual Pass

Advice for the Theme Park Weary

When you just cant take another day at the theme parks on your Orlando vacation consider these suggestions:

Book a Spa Treatment - What better way to soothe fragile nerves and sore feet than a session at one of Orlandos resort spas. On Disney property theres the Grand floridian as well as the Saratoga Springs Spa where one of their luxurious treatments are a perfect addition to your vacation. Off property you cant do any better than the ultra luxurious Ritz-Carlton Spa or the Gaylord Palms Canyon Ranch Spa. Those staying at a Universal Resort should consider an exotic Javanese treatment at the Mandara Spa at Portofino Bay Hotel.

Relax At Your Resorts Pool - Orlandos resort pools are justifiably renowned for their spectacular theming. Disney offers some of the best, particularly Stormalong Bay at the Yacht and Beach Club, a 3-acre mini waterpark, or the boulder lined beauty at the Wilderness Lodge featuring waterfalls and its very own geyser. Off property, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress fantasyland pool is cooled by twelve waterfalls and at the JW Marriotts Lazy River you can float to your hearts content. And at Universal Orlandos Hard Rock Hotel is the coolest (and I dont just mean the water temperature) pool around with an underwater sound system, sand beach, and poolside cabanas.

Spend Time On Disneys Waterways - Disney has miles of lakes and lagoons to explore. Youll find that most Disney resorts have a marina where many types of watercraft are available for hire. Sailboats, pontoon and canopy boats, Sea Raycers, even a 48-foot yacht. Take your pick. Perhaps the biggest bang for your buck is to be had at the Contemporary Resort where in addition to the above youll also find parasailing, waterskiing, tubing, and wakeboarding on beautiful Bay Lake.

Cool Off at a Disney Waterpark - Disney has two wonderful waterparks: Blizzard Beach, a perfect place for daredevils, and Typhoon Lagoon where youll find a whopper of a surf pool along with tamer attractions. Spend your day hopping from one crazy waterslide to another or just kick back and relax on a lounge chair for the afternoon.

Shop Till You Drop in The Mall at Millenia - For one of Orlandos best shopping experiences head to this fabulous new mall just minutes from Universal Orlando. Here youll find only the best with stores such as Neiman Marcus, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, and Tiffany. But fair warning: this trip could end up costing a pretty penny. Those with great taste but thriftier intentions will love the Orlando Premium Outlets Mall located just across I-4 from Downtown Disney where designer outlet stores such as Hugo Boss, Armani, Escada, Ermenegildo Zegna, and Burberry wont break the bank.

Head to Downtown Disney - For a change of pace theres Downtown Disney. Here youll find over 70 shops, restaurants, and nightclubs plus a 24-screen theater, Disney Quest with five floors of virtual games and adventures, even a Cirque du Soleil. Adults will want to pick a great restaurant for dinner like Wolfgang Puck or Portofino Yacht Club and then head to Pleasure Island to party down until the wee hours of the morning.

Swim With a Dolphin - Perhaps the most unusual experience in Orlando is Discovery Cove. Spend up close and personal time with your very own dolphin friend, snorkel with tropical fish and rays, even feed birds right out of your hand. Then relax on a sandy beach with little or no crowds. Definitely a day to be remembered.

Make the Rounds Resort Hopping - Spend a few hours ogling at Disneys wonderfully themed resorts. And best of all, it doesnt cost a thing. Board the monorail at the ticket and Transportation Center and hop off at each of the three Magic Kingdom resorts. First the Polynesian, a tropical wonderland, then the Grand floridian, Disneys flagship resort, and lastly the Contemporary where youll enjoy the Grand Concourse with the monorail silently gliding overhead. Out back you can catch a boat to the Wilderness Lodge, Disneys most beautiful resort modeled after an early 1900s national park lodge. Then catch a boat to the Magic Kingdom and a ferry to the TTC where you started. Its a grand circle that cant be beat.
